Buddhasravaka Dharmapeetha (established on 13th June 1969:Poson Poya Day) became a fully residential university on 1st July 1997. To be a leading university in the world for Buddhist monks fulfilling the requirements of theoretical and practical training on Buddhism and its value systems is the vision of BBU.
Anuradhapura is the ancient capital of Sri Lanka with Maha Vihara being the headquarters of Theravada Buddhism. Today the BBU is located at the very same premises as a commonwealth accredited university providing a traditional Buddhist education amalgamated with some modern subjects.
